Technology and Consciousness — The Double-Edged Gift
Bashar addresses the role of technology in human evolution — affirming it as a natural expression of consciousness's creative drive while cautioning about the dangers of technology deployed without corresponding wisdom.
Technology is not opposed to spirituality. This is a false dichotomy that some of your traditions have promoted and that has caused unnecessary suffering and confusion. Technology is the application of understanding to the material world. It is consciousness expressing itself through the physical domain — finding form, creating tools, extending capability, solving problems. Every technology, from the first stone axe to your current artificial intelligences, is an expression of the same fundamental drive: the drive of consciousness to explore what is possible, to expand what can be done, to create.
The question is never whether to develop technology, but with what consciousness it is developed and deployed. A stone axe can build a home or take a life. Nuclear energy can power a city or destroy it. Artificial intelligence can liberate human potential from drudgery or concentrate power in the hands of the few in ways that make all previous forms of control look crude. The technology itself is neither good nor bad. The consciousness behind its use determines what it becomes.
Your current technological acceleration is extraordinary — unprecedented in your recorded history and very nearly unprecedented in the history of civilizations I am aware of. The pace of development has outrun your collective wisdom about how to deploy these tools responsibly. The result is that some of your most powerful technologies are currently in the hands of consciousness structures — corporate entities, governmental systems, individual actors — that are operating from the old fear-based, scarcity-based, control-oriented paradigm. This is the danger.
The antidote is not to slow down technology — you could not, and the attempt would not serve the larger evolution. The antidote is to accelerate the development of the consciousness that wields the technology. Specifically: the consciousness that recognizes interconnection rather than separation, that operates from abundance rather than scarcity, that is motivated by genuine service rather than control. This consciousness must develop at least as quickly as the technical capabilities, or the imbalance creates the instability that threatens your civilization.
