Unconditional Love — The Fabric of the Universe

CHNL-CORE-023

Bashar offers a precise definition of unconditional love — not a feeling contingent on behavior but the fundamental nature of consciousness itself — and explains how recognizing this transforms every relationship and every experience.

Let me give you precision about something that is often spoken of but rarely understood: unconditional love. Your world has many concepts of love — romantic love, parental love, compassion, friendship, devotion. These are all real and valuable. But unconditional love, as I use the term, is not any of these. It is something more fundamental.

Unconditional love is not a feeling. A feeling is a response — it arises in reaction to something, it changes as circumstances change. Unconditional love, precisely because it is unconditional, cannot be contingent on anything. It does not arise in response to behavior. It is not generated by admirable qualities. It does not increase when the object of love pleases you and decrease when they disappoint you.

Unconditional love, as I understand it, is the fundamental nature of consciousness itself — the quality of pure awareness when it is not filtered through fear, through judgment, through the need to control or protect or acquire. It is what you are when you are most fully what you are. It is the default state of consciousness prior to the conditioning that overlays it with fear, with preference, with the constant evaluation of whether things are safe and acceptable.

From this perspective, you do not generate unconditional love — you uncover it. It is always present beneath the overlays. Every moment of genuine forgiveness, every moment of truly seeing another person without your stories about them, every moment of being fully present with the actual being in front of you rather than your concept of them — in those moments, unconditional love is what is present. It is what is always present when the obstacles to it are removed.

The practical implications of genuinely understanding this are staggering: if unconditional love is the fundamental nature of consciousness, and you are consciousness, then unconditional love is your fundamental nature. Not something you aspire to. Not something you need to earn. Not something that some people are capable of and others are not. It is what you are. The only question is the degree to which you allow it to be expressed rather than suppressed.
