Permission Slip: Tools That Grant Access to Your Own Power
Bashar's concept of the 'Permission Slip' is one of his most practical and misunderstood teachings.
This entry covers:
- the core definition—a Permission Slip is any object, ritual, belief, or practice that you use as a focal point to allow yourself to access abilities you already possess but have been blocking; the tool itself has no inherent power, but your belief in it temporarily suspends self-denial,
- the placebo relationship—Permission Slips operate through the same mechanism as placebos, but consciously; you knowingly choose a 'crutch' that helps you walk until you realize you could walk all along,
- examples across domains—crystals (healing permission), astrology (timing permission), tarot (insight permission), religious sacraments (grace permission), money (abundance permission), degrees (competence permission); all are valid if they work for you,
- the liberation moment—the goal is not permanent dependence on the Permission Slip but eventual recognition that the power was yours; Bashar encourages celebrating tools while remaining aware they are tools, not sources,
- creating personal Permission Slips—the most effective are those you design yourself through excitement: a special pen for writing intentions, a specific walking route for decision-making, a playlist that triggers creative states.
Bashar emphasizes that judging others' Permission Slips (calling them superstition or crutches) is itself a limitation; what expands consciousness for one being may be exactly what they need.
